Tanya Thompson, age 93, of Toledo, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, December 15, 2024. She was born on March 30, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio to Kosta and Maria (Evanoff) Ranchan. Tanya was a graduate of Waite High School and worked in account processing at Society Bank for 32 years. She also assisted her son George as a secretary for his jewelry business, “George D. Thompson Jewelry by Design”. She was a longtime member of St. George Bulgarian Orthodox Cathedral in East Toledo where she spent many hours sharing her excellent cooking skills at church events with ethnic specialties such as “bonitsa”, and working the counter at church bingo. Proud of her Bulgarian Macedonian heritage, Tanya loved preserving her Bulgarian, Macedonian culture. She was also an avid reader and gardener. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was especially proud of her son George as the owner and operator of “Georgjz 419” in downtown Toledo.
Tanya is survived by her son, George D. Thompson; brother, John (Sharon) Ranchan; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debra Thompson; sister, Helen Kusina; and brother-in-law, Ed Kusina.
Visitation will be Friday, December 20 from 4-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd., with Parastasas services at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Arkady Migunov presiding. Interment will follow in Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
