Teresa Gawle

Teresa Gawle, age 84, formerly of Dean Street in Toledo, OH passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023 at Otterbein Perrysburg. She was born November 20, 1938 in Jozefow, Poland to Walter and Gertrude (Koudel) Szczucinski. She was a volunteer nurses aide in Poland, and upon moving to the US worked at Toledo Stamping, and as a diet aid at Flower Hospital for 18 years, retiring at age 60. Teresa was proud of her Polish heritage and very active in the Polish community. A wonderful cook, she enjoyed preparing traditional dishes from her homeland, including hosting the annual “Wigilia’ - Polish Christmas Eve dinner of twelve dishes. She also loved listening to Polish music and dancing with her husband Mitch. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church.

Teresa is survived by her daughters, Halina (Mike) Brown, Maria (Bruce) Drews, and Urszula Gawle; daughter-in-law, Julie Gawle; 11 grandchildren, 9 great and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marysia (Kazimierz) Babula; brother, Ludwik (Helen) Szczucinski; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mieczyslaw “Mitch” Gawle; son, Wieslaw “Johnny” Gawle; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 17 from 4-7 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with a Rosary at 7.  Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Sts. Adalbert and Hedwig Catholic Church at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
