Virginia Houck Obituary

Virginia Margaret (Treadwell) Houck, 97, longtime resident of Toledo, found eternal rest with the Lord on December 8, 2020. She was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania and graduated from Central Catholic High School, Toledo. She worked for many years at Mather Spring and retired from Libbey Glass. She spent years traveling, golfing and bowling well into her 90’s. She kept busy after retirement by working at Toledo Speedway, Raceway Park and finally retired at the age of 92 from Miracle Lanes working in their afterschool program. She also lived for 43 years on Regina Parkway and volunteered at the parish bingo and festival activities for many years. She enjoyed sitting in her driveway with her friends listening to the festival music. Her mother, Jennie (Skibicka) Treadwell, who emigrated from Poland by herself at the age of 13, lived with Virginia and Virginia’s husband their entire married life, until her death in September of 1972. Virginia married Roy V. Houck on December 11, 1943 and was a devoted wife during his 2 years imprisonment as a World War II POW in Austria. She lived joyously with him until his death on 6/17/72.

Virginia is survived by her daughters Linda (Gary) Hergenrather and Karen (William) Etue; grandchildren William (Charlotte) Etue, Jennie (Phil) Kraus and Stacie (Kevin) Niebel; and great-grandchildren Vincent Etue, Olivia, Noah & Joshua Kraus, Andrew, Nicholas and Lillian Niebel. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy; mother, Jennie Treadwell; and brother, Bill Treadwell.
