Virginia Caroline Kehr, age 90, of Point Place, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the Vibrant Life Jackman Lodge Care Center. She was born January 21, 1931 in Toledo, OH to Louis and Frances (Romak) Zelling. A 1949 graduate of Central Catholic High School, Virginia completed both her Bachelor and Master of Education degrees at Mary Manse College. She taught for many years in the Bedford School System, primarily for Smith Rd. and Jackman Rd. Elementary, retiring in 1993. Virginia was a Union Teachers Representative for the Michigan Education Association. An avid reader, lifelong learner, and “information hawk”, she loved studying anything having to do with politics, religion, literature, and research. She was a former parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and a current member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Michael (Pat) Kehr, Donald Emil Kehr Jr., Robert (Maryann) Kehr, Laurence Kehr, and Martin (Cheryl) Kehr; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and sister, Carol Heiden. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Frederick Zelling; and former husband, Donald E. Kehr Sr.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 25 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Services will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
