Walter George "Walt" Rieger

  Walter George “Walt” Rieger, age 95, of Toledo, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Ebeid Hospice, Sylvania. He was born on August 2, 1926 in Sylvania, OH to John and Agnes (Ryan) Rieger. A WWII Veteran of the US Navy, he was employed as a dock worker and truck loader for Norwalk Truck Lines for over 30 years, and Allied Wheel and Rim in Whitehouse, OH for 10 years. Walt met and fell in love with the girl next door, Helen Clarkson and knew she was “the one” at age 16. They were married on August 25, 1945 in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sylvania, OH where he had also received the sacraments of first communion and confirmation.

  Walt was an excellent carpenter and skilled at electrical work as well. He built his first home on Rudyard Road himself. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed.

  Walt was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen Rieger; son, Gary Rieger; and infant daughter, Theresa Rieger. He is survived by his children, Ron (Jo Ann) Rieger, Kathy (Thomas) Van Camp, John Rieger, and Vicki (James) Rahe; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and sister, Margie Townsend.

  Services will be private at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 419-476-9176. Interment will be in Ravine Cemetery, Sylvania, OH.
