Winfried Hellmuth “Win” Walter, age 90, of Temperance, MI, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. Born November 11, 1935 in Essen, Germany to Erwin and Joanne (Helmboldt) Walter, he moved to the United States and settled in Toledo in 1957. Win began his working career at Ohio Tool where he was recognized by General William Westmoreland for his redesign of Vietnam era tank tracks which saved numerous lives and equipment. He went on to become the general manager at Toledo Metal Spinning, owner and CEO of Superior Spinning and Stamping Co. for 30 years, and managing partner of Peterson Spinning and Stamping Co. He was a member of the Precision Metal Forming Association, as well as a founding member and former chairman of the Metal Spinning division.
Win was a firm believer in education and sponsored many students at St. Francis de Sales High School and the Evans Golf Scholarship program for caddies. He was a former board member of St. Francis de Sales for 10 years. An avid and skilled golfer, he won the Ohio Senior Open for his age group in his 80’s, was a member of the St. Andrews Golf Club in Scotland, and always looked forward to the annual Fretti Open on the 4th of July, A devoted family man, Win cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and supported them in all their endeavors. He was a former parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Win is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ellie (Kneup) Walter (married August 8, 1959); children, Jeffrey (Carrie) Walter, Thomas (Cheryl) Walter, and Jacqueline (Blake) Bonyko; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Walter, Jeffrey Walter II, Lindsay (Ben) Jordan, Mallory Walter, Natalie (Nick) Cooper, Kevin Nelson, Christopher Nelson, Thomas Nelson, Connor Nelson, Madeline (Ethan) Kaplan, and Kevin Bonyko; great-granddaughters, Natalee and Violet Cooper, and Nora Jordan; and brother, Lothar Walter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Ingrid Springer.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 4 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. Funeral services will be private with interment in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
