CREMATION

In keeping with Ohio and Michigan Law, the deceased cannot be cremated until a physician or a medical examiner has signed a death certificate stating cause of death. a 24-hour waiting period after death must be met, before the cremation process can take place.

Cremation and authorization forms are an integral part of the cremation process. The contents of these forms indicate the cremation is an irreversible and final process. A family member must view the remains and positively identify them and sign off. In addition, there are other critical items that the family representative must initial and sign.

A funeral with viewing and religious ceremony is the most prevalently selected cremation service. This choice includes all the proceedings of a traditional funeral with viewing, visitation, a funeral ceremony or church service. At a later date the cremains may be buried, or interred into a niche in a mausoleum or returned to the family for their choice of disposition.

Most families choose an urn to place the cremains in. Most cemeteries now require an outer burial container to accommodate the cremains before they are buried.

A memorial service has also been a choice. These proceedings are commonly held in a church, however many families choose to have the service in the funeral home. The cremains may or may not be present in an urn and the cremains may be buried, interred into a niche in a mausoleum or returned to the family for their choice of disposition.

Direct cremation without any attendant rites or ceremony includes removal of remains, local transportation to crematory, necessary services of staff and authorization. If arranging a direct cremation, an alternative container may be used. Alternate containers encase the body and can be made of materials like fiberboard or composition materials (with or without an outside covering). The containers we provide are: cardboard box or cremation caskets.

AFTER CARE PROGRAM

When a death occurs it marks the beginning of a difficult transition period. In order to assist you during this transition we have established an after-care program that provides our families with several valuable resources.
